A small retreat from the city’s hectic life in the old family house.

The new space at the southern end of the existing building opens to the garden and the sunlight through the new openings in the façade creating a small living space for the younger ones to visit the family. The humble renovation complements the site’s possibilities connecting the building with the garden and redefines the garden’s qualities giving it a face, otherwise left behind in the back of the house.

Openness is also maximized indoors combining the old garage and bedroom into a unique and higher space leaving the existing roof structure exposed as well as opening up the sauna views and access towards the east terrace, which in the future can be connected to the main living room for direct access to the sauna. The energy performance of the existing structures was also improved in the renovation process.

The the wooden windows and glazed wooden doors are custom-designed for the house and custom-built by a carpenter.

The project was carried out in close cooperation with the clients.
