Vähäkallio

In the summer months the family life moves to the yard. Indoors remains only for sleeping. This compact extension is designed to support widely and in different ways the family’s hobbies: fishing, collecting mushrooms and berries, gardening – making food from their own harvest and preserving it – for different stages, storing the tools, cleaning and handling. The space functions as well as the washing point and water storage for the whole cottage. The terraced space merges with the existing paved path between the sauna cottage and the pier and allows to walk shoeless form the cottage in the otherwise wooded landscape.

Untreated larch wood withstands Nordic weather conditions and naturally will become grey within few years merging into place. The storage spaces are covered with bamboo curtains and the wooden joints are carefully designed to keep the overall look neat and calm.
