This vacation house sits on top of the hill sheltered within the forest with open views towards the lake and it is designed to be fit for winter usage as well. The big telt-like roof shelters two volumes: one for the living spaces and a sauna to be used all year round. The large terrace joins them and provides a lot of covered outdoor space for a big family with several children. The arrival to the house is from the forest side and through the interstitial space as a gateway between the building masses framing the views to the lake.
The building is well integrated into the natural surroundings. Despite the two storeys the gables are low. The roof eaves are long as in traditional construction to protect from the weather but they are used to create a modern architectural element. Also the wooden claddings, which will gray out naturally will melt the building with the surrounding nature.
The bedrooms are designed to be small to afford bigger common spaces, where the big family can gather together. All possible spaces, looking at the house as a three-dimensional object, are utilized.
The house will be built from CLT massive timber elements without additional insulation and the base floor lift up from the ground to ensure good breathability of the structures. The heating is provided with geothermal energy.
